Danilo Pertucci was 16th on the Tech 3 KTM ahead of Alex Marquez on the sister LCR Honda, while home hero Cal Crutchlow was only 19th on the factory Yamaha behind the sister Tech 3 KTM of Iker Lecuona.

The struggling Miguel Oliveira will line up a disappointing 20th on the factory KTM, with Jake Dixon making his first ever MotoGP start from 21st on the SRT Yamaha.

Suzuki is open to the idea of adding a Team Manager to its ranks for 2022, after MotoGP Project Leader Shinichi Sahara admitted, “I’m too busy to do this job.” The factory has been dealing with the absence of Davide Brivio, who surprisingly moved to Formula1 team Alpine, since January, and set up a seven-man Management Committee – headed by Sahara – to absorb the loss.

Bastianini will head teammate Luca Marini on their two-year-old Ducatis, while LCR’s Takaaki Nakagami could do no better than 15th on his works Honda.

“It definitely pisses you off,” he told Motorsport.com.

Australian Jack Miller was lost for answers as he tried to explain his disappointing qualifying performance for the MotoGP British Grand Prix.

Miller posted the fastest lap to top the third practice time sheets and had impressed all weekend but ended up finishing seventh in qualifying, 0.479 seconds off Pol Espargaro who took pole.

The Aussie suggested new tyres may have been to blame for the drop in form.

MotoGP qualifying at Silverstone came to a confusing conclusion as timing screens credited rookie Jorge Martin with going 1.5s quicker than anyone through sector 2 on the way to pole position by a huge 0.881s, a margin so big that even his Pramac team were refusing to celebrate.
